Tips and Tricks for your best anti-age skincare routine and regimen.

Youthful looking skin doesn't just come from using the best skincare products- you also need a good lifestyle routine to keep your skin looking it's best. Read below for some tips and tricks and do's and don'ts of the best anti-ageing skincare routine and regimen.

DO:

  1. Wear SPF of 30 or higher. Photo-aging from the sun is the number one reason for fine lines and wrinkles. Wearing a sunscreen (that is strong enough!) is SUPER important to maintaining a youthful appearance. Especially if you are using AHA products.

  2. Follow a healthy diet. You are what you eat and your skin is a reflection of that diet! Its important to eat a nourishing whole food diet for smoother, glowing skin.

  3. Drink Plenty of water. Dehydrated skin makes you look older- Keep your skin moisturized not just with beauty products- but by drinking 8 glasses of water a day!

  4. Wash face 2x a day. Outside elements like dirt and pollution are constantly reaching your skin which can damage your moisture barrier and clog your pores! Keep your face clean is a simple step to keeping your skin healthy.

  5. Use a Moisturizer. I said it before and I'll repeat it here, Dehydrated skin makes you look older!! You don't just need to drink more water, you NEED to use a moisturizer. No matter your skin type (Looking at you oily skin types!)

  6. Get 8+ hours of sleep a night. Eye bags aren't the only side affect to not getting enough sleep. Try and get at least 8 hours of sleep a night for you best looking complexion.

  7. Take daily multi-vitamin. The more healthy YOU are, the more healthy your skin will look. Try adding a multi-vitamin to your daily routine and see your skin glow from inside out!

  8. Be consistent with your skincare routine. It is so important to be consistent with your skincare. Cleaning your face, moisturizing, exfoliating... these are all things you need to be doing for your best looking skin. Make time for your skin!

  9. Exfoliate. Humans lose around 500 million skin cells every day, meaning dead skin can build up pretty quickly! Your skin naturally exfoliates its skin every 24-80 days- depending on your age. The older you get- your skin stops doing the heavy lifting and exfoliates less frequently which causes pigmentation, dark spots, fine lines and wrinkles to form. Chemical exfoliation steps in to keep the skin renewal process going giving you radiant, younger looking skin of your youth!

DON'T

  1. Smoke. Smoking isn't just bad for your lungs- your skin ages when you smoke too! from fine lines around your mouth from the physical action of smoking, to age spots from the chemicals seeping into your skin from the smoke- just put the cigarettes down!

  2. Use tanning beds. Tanning beds will increase photo aging of your skin and are NOT safer the sun. Wrinkles, age spots, and loss of skin firmness tend to appear years earlier in people who tan. Anyone who tans can also develop leathery skin, which people who never tan don’t get. They also increase your likelihood of getting skin cancer!

  3. Consume excessive caffeine. Caffeine leads to a heightened stress response in the body. These stress hormones can increase the amount of oil produced by your sebaceous glands- making you more prone to breakouts!

  4. Eat too much junk food. Diets with excess sugar, refined carbs, saturated fat, trans fat, and alcohol can promote aging. Like Caffeine, junk food can also spike your hormones making you more prone to breakouts.

  5. Not get enough sleep. Not getting enough sleep affects the moisture levels in your skin. This decrease in moisture lowers your complexion's pH levels, which is why your skin looks less youthful and has less of a glow when your tired!

  6. Sleep with make-up on. Don't forget to clean your face before bed! Makeup left on the skin can cause breakouts by trapping dirt and environmental pollutants inside your pores. Over time this can degrade your collagen and result in premature aging.

  7. Skip your skincare routine. Your best skin is the skin you make time for. Don't forget to cleanse, moisturize, and exfoliate!

  8. Use too harsh of products. Using products that are too harsh for your skin don't just result in redness and irritation you can see- it also can create micro-tears and damage that is long term and can age your skin!

Follow these do's and don'ts for the best anti-aging skincare routine leading to younger, healthier looking skin!
